ContentsI am a permanent resident of the U.S. I am presently working at the Department of Food Science and Technology, University of Georgia, as a Postdoctoral Research Associate. My research has revolved around the application and effective use of Ozone, Ultraviolet irradiation, Chlorination, Electrolyzed (EO) water and Microwave Oven technology in addressing Food Safety and Quality issues on poultry, fruits and vegetables. Since I joined the Center for Food Safety and Quality Enhancement (CFSQE), now separated into two departments of Center for Food Safety and Department of Food Science and Technology, I have worked on emerging food safety concerns, developing alternative technologies to enhance current intervention methods. I have also had the privilege of being a part of the pioneering work done on EO water in the U.S.
I have published ten papers in famous scientific journals and made dozens of presentations at various scientific international conferences. In addition, I have been involved in the writing of several proposals and subsequent execution of these projects (5 USDA proposals, 1 FDA proposal and 2 FDA annual reports, 4 FoodPAC proposals, and 1 Hoshizaki Company proposal). These included the use of various technologies (hurdle concept) to inactivate foodborne pathogens on poultry products and fresh produce while maintaining/improving the quality of the product.
Currently I coordinate and conduct all aspects of microbial food safety and quality research including training three graduate students and two technical personnels in microbiological work and food processing techniques in my lab. I believe that my expertise in food safety will contribute to develop new knowledge and technology to solve agricultural problems and ensure the productivity of high-quality food and agricultural products to meet the nutritional needs of U.S.
I have performed extensive and effective research in the field of Food Microbiology associated with Escherichia coli O157:H7, Listeria monocytogenes, Salmonella, Campylobacter, Bacillus and various foodborne pathogens. I am also a conscientious and industrious person with very good interpersonal skills.
